Dr. Elizabeth Wangia, Ag. Director, Health Financing, Ministry of Health Kenya; Email: [email protected] Bio: Dr. Elizabeth Wangia is the current JLN country core group chair and the Ag. Director, for Health Financing at the State Department for Medical Services, Ministry of Health Kenya. During her tenure as the Head, the Country has managed to pass two critical health financing legislature that will spearhead the health financing reform agenda for the country with a focus on increasing health insurance coverage, and access to a comprehensive benefits package for the attainment of universal health coverage. Over the past year, she has spearheaded the country by joining two main learning collaboratives under the JLN. Dr. Wangia has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, a Master of Science in Medical Statistics, and several certifications in leadership, governance, finance management, economics, and implementation science. She is an alumnus of the International Program of Public Health Leadership (IPPHL), at the University of Washington, where she gained much required skills in public health leadership for Africa. Dr. Wangia is a member of the transition committee that oversees the transition of the National Health Insurance Fund to the Social Health Authority, which will be the fit-for-purpose vehicle for social health insurance in Kenya. Globally, she sits in the Scientific Council for the Global Burden of Disease a well-renowned study that compares disease burden over geographies and time. She desires to see that quality services are delivered to the citizens of Kenya, especially the women and children, who are likely to be left behind, without causing a financial burden.
