Reaching the Informal Sector
About the Learning Exchange – This activity has concluded
Providing health coverage with a specific focus on primary care services to all citizens is the foundational goal of universal health coverage.
Yet more than half of the world’s population still lack access to essential health services. Those who lack coverage are increasingly vulnerable groups working outside of the formal sector, making it more difficult to provide health coverage.
To address this challenge, practitioners from JLN member countries in the Reaching the Informal Sector collaborative have worked together to create policies and implement programs that aim to identify, enroll, and serve these populations, and to monitor efforts to adequately reach and provide health coverage to these groups.
Members share and exchange information on their country’s approaches to reaching and serving the poor, informal sector, and other vulnerable groups as part of their national reforms aimed at achieving UHC.
