Active Collaborative : Health Emergency Preparedness

Purpose

The Health Emergency Preparedness Collaborative aims to help countries strengthen their capacity to plan for, manage, and respond to health emergencies while continuing to deliver essential services. It focuses on clarifying how emergency preparedness fits within broader health system and primary healthcare strengthening efforts, supporting countries in integrating prioritized preparedness actions into routine planning.

Expected Outcomes

This collaborative will produce a set of knowledge products designed to strengthen countriesโ€™ health emergency preparedness, with a focus on financing, governance, and surveillance.

Progress

  • The collaborative began with a virtual launch in Octoberโ€“November 2023 to identify learning priorities.
  • The first in-person meeting took place in April 2024 in Washington, DC, where participants agreed to co-create knowledge products addressing financing, governance, and surveillance.
  • An Authorsโ€™ Workshop was held in September 2024 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to share experiences and advance development of the governance and financing knowledge products.
  • Virtual convenings and engagements were held between in-person meetings to support co-production efforts.
  • The second in-person meeting took place in November 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia where the governance, financing and surveillance workstreams came together to further progress on their respective knowledge products which are expected to be completed in 2026.
